Not always. During the home consult process, the consultant will check your current box for safety and compatibility. They will let you know either at the consult or on the estimate whether a new box is necessary. We will take care of supplying the part for you and the cost will be factored into your estimate.

The dimensions of most air-cooled generators are 48L x 25W x 29H.

The dimensions of liquid-cooled units vary, but most commonly are around 95L x 35W x 59H.

Air-cooled generators operate using a smaller, air-cooled engine, such as the one you would find in lawnmowers. They use fuel more efficiently, are easier to maintain, and are much less expensive. Liquid-cooled generators use an engine that is cooled by water or anti-freeze, similar to a vehicle. They are quieter and more reliable due to their higher efficiency at dissipating heat. However, they are much larger, more expensive, and require more parts. The choice between the two ultimately depends on the need, but liquid-cooled generators are most often seen in large-scale settings.

Generac generators are surrounded by aluminum enclosures, which protect them from the elements. In the event of major damage due to hail or trees, your homeowner's insurance will cover replacement.

Outdated electrical service panels are the most common hurdle encountered for an installation. These panels will need to be replaced for compatibility and safety. Distance between the electric meter and gas meter is also an important factor. If the distance is too great, extra wire and piping will be needed, which can significantly affect cost.
